Below is a picture from 1965 right after I got out of the USAF where I
was wiring up a Stromberg Carlson XY mainframe for RCA. It involved
making 100,000 solder connections without a wiring error. I know I sure
could not do that today. This was part of a project to install the
first private telephone system permitted in the US. It was to connect
together all of Richards Department stores in South Florida and also
provide interior phone service for them. Richards leased the trunks
from Bell, but owned all of the equipment and reportedly paid for the
project within four years by their savings over their previous charges.
